It’s made by fermenting baker’s yeast on an herbal substrate so that the yeast cells naturally rupture and release the nutrients inside. It’s this plasmolysate, not the whole yeast, that goes into Strath Tonic - along with just a little malt extract, honey and orange juice for a pleasant flavour.
