Comvita founders Claude Stratford and Alan Bougen wanted to enable the people in their community to live healthier, more joyful lives. In 1974, in the New Zealand village of Paengaroa, it wasn’t hard to take the natural world as a starting point for that goal. Claude and Alan went not to the ant but to the bees and the healing potential of honey – and soon, propolis, an immunosupportive resin bees use to build their hives. Following the company’s expansion to Australia, they also produce olive leaf extract sourced from their own Queensland plantations.
