Fractionated coconut oil is an oil made from regular coconut oil. Both regular and fractionated coconut oils are great sources of medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). However, their fatty acid composition is vastly different.
While the main fatty acid in coconut oil is the 12-carbon lauric acid (C12), most or all of this fatty acid has been removed from fractionation, creating a clear, odourless liquid oil that is rich in caprylic and capric acids.
Fractionated coconut oil has a number of benefits over regular coconut oil. Some of these being: A longer shelf life and is more resistant to rancidity, making it ideal for essential oils and other cosmetic and beauty products. Fractionated coconut oil is also lighter and more easily absorbed by the skin, which makes it a popular ingredient in leading skincare products and massage oils.
