Back in 2016, Sacha Guggenheimer and Tom Hiney were only just beginning to learn about the impact of sunscreen on our oceans. A marine biologist and conservation ecologist team studying the Ningaloo Reef, they grappled with the disparity around the need for sunscreen to protect their skin while on the reef and the negative environmental impacts of doing so. SunButter, their hand-made high performing all-natural sun protection cream, was the answer to this difficult imbalance-equation, providing the protection they needed without the adverse effects on corals and marine life or their health. The duo went on to expand their range in 2019, adding Australia’s first vegan surf zinc and packaging their SunButter products in recyclable and reusable tins.
