Ten reasons to add blackstrap molasses to your diet

Every now and then a product skyrockets in popularity here at Aussie Health Products. One that captures the imagination of our customers and has them asking for more information. They may have heard from friends or relatives, or read online, of how good this product is for their health or dietary needs and want to know how to add it into their diet.

The most recent example of this phenomenon is Blackstrap Molasses.

As the last stage of sugar extraction of the sugar cane plant, molasses is the natural raw product left after the crushing. Blackstrap molasses is the most nutritious of all molasses and is therefore chock full of essential minerals, vitamins and trace elements.

These include:

  • calcium
  • manganese
  • vitamin B6
  • selenium
  • iron
  • potassium

Impressive yes? But how healthy is it? Some quick research shows why adding the product to your diet will have a number of health benefits.

1. Relieves painful menstrual cramping.

Sufferers of dysmenorrhea — painful menstrual cramps — know the challenges this condition poses. However the richness of vitamins and minerals of blackstrap molasses help to alleviate this debilitating pain.

2. Prenatal care

Increasing your iron intake during pregnancy is necessary to prevent prenatal problems such as the possibility of a low weight baby and even an early delivery. Increasing your iron intake during pregnancy is needed to help the body make the extra blood cells it needs during the changes experienced by the body. Iron also is vital to helping baby make his or her own blood supply as they grow. Consuming blackstrap molasses will supply all the iron you will need for your daily dose to help prevent anaemia and contribute towards a healthy and (relatively) comfortable pregnancy.

3. Bone health

The extra calcium contained in the molasses helps build — and maintain — strong, healthy bones. This is particularly necessary in the very young and old.

4. Energy

With a healthy injection of carbohydrates, the molasses will provide a temporary, yet nutritious energy boost. Beats energy drinks laden with sugar!

5. Low GI

For those with diabetes, pre-diabetes, or looking (wisely) to control their blood sugar spikes, blackstrap molasses may provide the answer by releasing sugar slowly into the bloodstream (low GI).

6. Healthy sugar alternative

Looking to lose a few kilos? There is nothing better for your health than to lose a little excess weight. Blackstrap molasses will help here too by providing a healthy sugar alternative.

7. Acts as an antioxidant

Through the antioxidant manganese Molasses also acts as a cleanser for the body with the essential minerals and vitamins helping to prevent free radical damage to cells and DNA.

8. Aids digestion

Word-of-mouth evidence is starting to build of how blackstrap molasses not only assists digestion but also cures stomach aches and helps with other ailments of digestion such as diarrhoea and constipation.

9. Lowers blood pressure

The vitamins, minerals and trace elements act to to aid heart health by assisting to lower blood pressure in the body.

10. Healthy hair

Blackstrap molasses is nothing if not a versatile! It also doubles as a wonderful hair improver. The product contains copper whose trace elements have been shown to increase the quality and richness of hair if used over a long period of time.

No wonder our customers have taken to blackstrap molasses in droves! With such a low glycaemic index (GI) this may be the alternative to sugar in your cooking and diet to replace honey and golden syrup that you have been looking for! The product is packed full of the minerals you need for a healthy and nutritious diet. These include magnesium, calcium, manganese, potassium, copper, to name but a few.
